Nepal Travel Protocols Update

The government of Nepal has published an updated list of travel provisions for the tourists traveling to Nepal.

Here are the updated Nepal travel protocols.

A. Before arriving in Nepal

1. Tourists wanting to visit Nepal for trekking, climbing, or tour have to reach out to a trekking or tour company in Nepal and fix the itinerary. The company will request the Department of Tourism for Climbing and Nepal Tourism Board for other activities like trekking and tours for approval.

2. If tourists want to get medical service in Nepal, they need to coordinate with the hospital and the hospital will request Nepal Tourism Board for approval.

3. Department of Tourism or Nepal Tourism Board will recommend the details of the tourists to the Foreign Ministry and Department of Immigration after receiving the request from the company. The company should inform the same to the tourists wanting to visit Nepal.

B. About Nepal Visa

4. All the tourists need to get a visa from the Nepali Diplomatic Mission in their country before arrival. The Diplomatic Mission will issue the Visa after receiving the documents mentioned in Point 7 (b, c, & d) and informing the provision mentioned in 7(a).

5. The tourists getting into Nepal via air can get On-arrival Visa at the Immigration Desk in Tribhuvan International Airport if it is impossible to get Nepali Visa in their country. However, the tourists getting into Nepal overland need to get visas from the Nepali Diplomatic Mission abroad.

6. The tourists who want to get an On-arrival visa need to submit all the documents mentioned in point No 7 to the Immigration Desk at the Airport. The Immigration Desk will issue the visa to such tourists according to the law of Nepal.

C. Necessary Documents before Arriving in Nepal

7. The tourists need to submit the following documents at the check-in counter before boarding the plane.

a. PCR Negative report done not more than 72 hours before boarding the flight or COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate.

b. Nepal Visa or the Recommendation Letter from Nepal Tourism Boarding mentioning the tourism activities that you will be involved in.

c. Hotel Booking in Nepal for your stay.

d. Travel insurance that covers you in the emergency evacuation during your travel in Nepal.

8. The airlines will let you in only after submitting the documents mentioned above in points 7(a, b, c, & d).

D. After arriving in Nepal

9. You have to go for a PCR test here in Nepal after your arrival even if you have received the vaccine against COVID-19. You need to stay in hotel quarantine at your own expense as long as the report comes negative. Once you receive PCR negative report, you can start the activities that you have signed up for.

10. The trekking or tour companies should provide the COVID insurance of a minimum of 100,000 Rupees to the Nepali support team traveling with the tourists.

E. For Indian Nationals

11. Indian nationals entering Nepal via air will be treated according to the “Nepal-India Air Travel Bubble Agreement”.

12. Indian nationals entering Nepal overland should submit the documents as mentioned in point 7(a) to the Immigration Desk at the Nepal-India border.

13. Indian Nationals should follow the COVID-19 health protocols issued by the Nepal government.

F. Role of Concerned Authorities and Companies

14. The trekking, climbing, and tour companies should give detailed information about the health and other protocols to the tourists traveling to Nepal.

15. The concerned companies need to submit the travelers’ details to the Department of Tourism or Nepal Tourism Board before arrival and after departure.

16. Department of Tourism or Nepal Tourism Board should forward the details of the travelers to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

17. The concerned companies are fully responsible to take care of and monitor the activities of the tourists traveling with them in Nepal.

18. All travelers should follow the COVID-19 health protocols issued by the Nepal government during the travel and their stay. The concerned companies should make sure of this.

G. Monitoring and Action

19. The Department of Tourism or Nepal Tourism Board will monitor the concerned companies to check if the provisions in ‘F’ have been followed.

20. The Local Government or Administration can inform the Department of Tourism or Nepal Tourism Board if the concerned agencies have been following the health protocols.

21. If any tourists or concerned agencies are found violating the Health and other protocols during their travel, action will be taken as per the rules of the Nepal government.
